History

Axis was set up in 1993 by Shrewsbury psychotherapist Liza Morgan to offer a free and confidential service to the people of Shropshire, Telford & the Wrekin to deal with a range of sexual trauma. This service was available in Shropshire long before similar services were set up in other parts of the country.

Liza, a sex therapist working in Shrewsbury, found that many of the people seeking her help had been abused in childhood. So she set up Axis on a very modest scale with rent-free offices, borrowed equipment and volunteers.

Over twenty-five years later Axis has grown beyond recognition and has so far helped over 15,000 people. In 2008 Liza was awarded an MBE for her services working with sexual trauma in the public and voluntary sectors. She says this is a recognition for all those who have suffered sexual trauma.
