Hours:              37.5 hours per week

Salary:             Starting at £40,345

Location:        Across Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire where required

Holidays:        26 days plus statutory holidays per annum

Term:              Fixed term until 31/03/2026 (potential to extend, subject to funding)

Axis overview

Axis Counselling is a charity which has been supporting survivors of sexual abuse for over 30 years. We support adults and children aged from 5 years and over, plus family members and loved ones. We currently provide services via our four departments: Counselling; Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service; Complex Care Pathfinder and Training/ Education.

Post overview

We are seeking an experienced innovative manager to lead our counselling service. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the running of the Counselling service, as directed by the Head of Operations and CEO, to include budget management; delivery and maintenance of funded projects and contractual arrangements; monitoring and reporting; and management of the Counselling Support team and Counselling Leads; ensuring the provision of an equitable, pro-active and safe service to survivors of sexual abuse.

Key tasks

  • Responsibility for the day to day running; development and future planning of the Counselling service, ensuring an equitable, pro-activate and safe service.
  • Provide leadership and management of the Counselling service
  • Line manage and support the Counselling, Placement and Counselling Support Leads to provide a dynamic leadership structure within the Counselling service, and providing effective Line Management supervision and facilitating the of provision of external Clinical Supervision
  • Joint responsibility for awareness raising, education; and raising the profile of Axis and the Counselling Service
  • Prepare statistical, financial and narrative reports in line with contractual arrangements and internal arrangements, with the support of the Leads.
  • Prepare and collaborate on funding bids.
  • Manage a budget with the support of the Finance Officer
  • Undertake monthly audits for KPI returns
  • Liaise with partner agencies within professional boundaries, and within the limitations of the role, representing the organisation at meetings appropriately.
  • Promote the principle of equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Present a professional image and maintain relationships with staff, clients, members of the public, external organisations, funders and other key stakeholders
  • Ensure that IT systems used by the Counselling Service are being utilised in the most streamlined way possible.
  • Work in conjunction with IT developers to evolve the database system(s) to enable contractual requirements to be met, and to continue to move the service forward.
